A field guide to getting caught

So, How Does This Actually Work?

Glad you asked. Short version: it watches you almost keep a promise, then tells everyone the moment you don't. Long version below — see if you make it through without feeling personally attacked.

The Pipeline

01

Declare a curfew you'll immediately regret

Set a nightly cutoff in the app. 9pm is the crowd favorite, mostly because it's the one everyone breaks by 11:47. Ambition, wasted.

02

Install it and let it watch

CaughtShipping sits quietly in the background and checks whether an editor is open once your curfew hits. It doesn't read your code, your files, or your secrets — it just needs to know you're still awake and lying to yourself.

03

Ship "just one more commit" anyway

You will. Everyone does. The second it catches an editor open past your cutoff, your grace window opens — five minutes by default, shorter if you've tightened it. When it closes, the fall is logged. No snooze. No second chance.

04

Get reported to the Blotter

Your fall goes public: timestamp, streak reset to zero, and a custom roast picked for the occasion. Anonymous handles are available. Your dignity, once spent, is non-refundable.

05

Or, somehow, keep your word

Close the laptop on time and your streak climbs the Wall of Rest instead. It happens. Rarely. Mostly to other people. Prove us wrong.

What We Actually Watch

We're nosy about exactly one thing: whether you kept your word. Everything else is none of our business.

What we log
  • The app you had open — name only, nothing inside it
  • The exact minute you opened it past curfew
  • Whether that minute landed before or after your declared cutoff
  • Whether the app was actually running at curfew — go dark for four nights and your streak resets, because a closed app proves nothing
  • Your streak — publicly, indefinitely, until you purge it
What we never touch
  • Your code
  • Your files, filenames, or project names
  • Your keystrokes
  • Screenshots, window titles, anything you typed
  • Whatever excuse you're preparing right now — save it, the wall doesn't take testimony

Questions You're Pretending You Don't Have

Can I just set my curfew for like, 11pm?
That's the latest we allow — curfew has to start at 8pm or later, wake has to land by 6am, and the window between them can't be less than 7 hours. 11pm to 6am is the exact minimum. Congratulations on finding the loophole that is "sleep."
What if I have an actual production fire at 2am?
There's a silent override for real emergencies — no roast, no blotter entry. We're petty, not sadistic. Use it honestly, or the wall will notice the pattern.
Can't I just quit the app during curfew and ship in peace?
Cute. A closed app doesn't earn you a clean night — it earns you nothing, and nothing doesn't climb the wall. The moment you go dark your streak stops cold, and after four straight nights with the app shut it resets to zero. Absence isn't innocence: if we can't watch you keep your word, we assume you didn't. Closing the laptop to sleep is the whole point; closing the app to cheat is just the slow way to lose your streak.
Can I delete my shame later?
Yes. GDPR says you can purge your falls whenever you like, and we'll comply — right after we finish laughing.

Go on, then. Prove it.

Download the app, set a curfew you'll pretend to respect, and find out which side of the wall you actually belong on.
